About Sorrel Counselling

Hello
I'm Sorrel, a therapist carrying out counselling services for individuals and couples in central Lewes, as well as online and local home visits.
I offer a calm, supportive space where you can speak openly and make sense of what you’re feeling at your own pace. Together, we’ll explore what’s going on for you, notice patterns that may be holding you back, and work towards changes that feel realistic and meaningful.
I work integratively, drawing on different therapeutic approaches depending on what’s most helpful for you. This means our work is shaped around your needs — with an emphasis on empathy, understanding, and personal growth.

What it's like working with me
Therapy with me is collaborative, honest and built on a genuine relationship where trust develops, you can feel truly understood, and difficult things can be explored safely.

I draw on a mix of approaches, including psychoeducation and practical tools, but at the heart of my work is a person-centred, relational focus. I see you as the expert of your own life, and my role is to be curious about your experience, walk alongside you, and create a calm and attentive space where you feel empowered to explore, reflect, and ultimately make choices that feel right for you.

My style is direct and straightforward, while always being non-judgemental and compassionate. I value honesty and will gently challenge you when needed, supporting you to see things from new perspectives. I believe in maintaining clear boundaries and structure, while also allowing space for flexibility, authenticity, and even humour. Therapy can be both serious and lighthearted, and I find that being able to laugh together can be just as healing as sitting with difficult emotions.
I find the work most beneficial when a client is motivated to explore themselves, open to change, and willing to step into the sometimes uncomfortable—but rewarding—work of growth.

Client words
"I went for grief counselling with Sorrel following the death of my wife.
She was welcoming, understanding and empathetic. We bonded in the first session which provided a safe space for me to talk about my feelings, emotions, plans and frustrations. Sessions could get quite emotional with tears and laughter in equal measure.
Over the twelve weeks we developed a new way of viewing my grief. By breaking the emotions down we were able to piece back together a new me who is now able to get up in the morning and look forwards to each new day.
I would measure my progress in the number of tissues I went through. Initially a nearly a whole box, but towards the end just one or two: in the final session just one; to blow my nose.
I would thoroughly and whole heartedly recommend Sorrel.”
Couples Work

More recently, I have expanded my practice to include working with couples. As a couples counsellor, my focus is on the relationship itself — the space between you — rather than on either of you as individuals.
Together, we explore the story that has developed over time about your relationship and about one another within it.
We gently examine the patterns you may find yourselves repeating, the needs and feelings that may have gone unheard, and what feels missing or strained. Through this process, we work toward clearer communication, deeper understanding, and a renewed sense of connection. By building empathy and insight into each other’s inner worlds, couples often find they can move beyond entrenched dynamics and begin to rekindle the bond that first brought them together.
brought them together.
